Tumblr

So, I thought about it...for five seconds.  I downloaded Tumblr and thought this might be a better option for me, but I've got to be honest, I have no idea what Tumblr is all about.  Out of my three readers...anyone know?

Blogging Should be Easier

As some of you know I used to have an actual website (www.tresfetch.com. If you go there now you will see that I no longer own it...don't buy it! Unless you are buying it as a present for me!) for the first year of that website I was able to post what I wanted when I wanted...then my trusty (read: totally untrustworthy) Dell decided to crash and I took the leap into The wonderful world of Apple.

I thought to myself, "Great, I've got a Mac, surely my website skills and posting will greatly improve now." Little did I know, I would have no idea how to continue the upkeep of my website now that I no longer had the same software to create and edit my site (it was PC software, go figure).  So I started using Blogger... www.sotresfetch.blogspot.com.  This was a great solution when I was working at Comedy Central and I had the time to update my blog daily, but once I switched jobs and eventually came to land at my final resting ground (yes sometimes it does feel like I am going to die there) the window of time to blog was becoming smaller and smaller until it was nothing more than a space where you could slip a piece of loose-leaf paper through it...as long as it didn't have writing on it.  So here I was with a conundrum.  I knew I had fans...(3) and I knew I needed my outlet so I continued to try and find a better way to blog.

Enter stage left: BethandTaxes.blogspot.com.  (I needed to ditch sotresfetch, which was probably stupid since people used to read it, because I didn't want to write celebrity gossip anymore...yeah, in retrospect, I should have stuck with the site name!)  I looked into mobile blogging. That worked for about 3 or 4 posts, but I was sure if I kept up blogging on my blackberry and writing my long winded posts I was sure to get carpal tunnel...or cell phone thumb...or something as equally as scary and ridiculous.  I needed something else.

Enter...iPad.  "Great," I thought again to myself, "Apple solves all problems!  Surely there will be an App for that!"  Maybe I should have included, "Please Apple Powers That Be, I would like a FREE App for that."  Was there an App for that?  Sure there were a couple, but most of them I had to pay for and they included much more than I needed.  I only need one App that does ONE thing...lets me post to my blog.  "Just use the Internet!" I am sure that is what most of you are thinking right now.  "The girl has a stinking iPad, just use the Internet and go on blogger.com."  Well, my iPad doesn't have 3G, I have WiFi and sometimes (final resting ground) I can't get on to certain sites...like blogger.com.  In addition, I am pretty sure that something will happen to my fingertips from using the touch screen for such long posts.

Basically...I want my site back www.tresfetch.com (somehow I feel more legit with a site, rather than a blog...I mean, really EVERYONE has a blog...and I am beginning to think with things like Twitter, Tumblr, even Facebook, I am becoming more and more "passe" with every blog posts.  I also want to figure out how to update that site from both my iPad and my Mac.  I guess I will have to hit the google running (Like that?  A dorky way to say "Hit the ground running".  I am full of them people, full of them!) and figure it all out if I want to do what I want to do.  I think I owe it to my fans (all 3 of you!)

DVR Shame!

Today's question:  What do you DVR that you are ashamed of?

We all have them, and I am not talking about the ones you wouldn't want your little cousin to see on your DVR list.  Shows we DVR that we are unabashedly ashamed of.  Oxymoron, you ask?  Not at all, because lets be honest we have no shame in DVRing these embarrassing shows until someone comes over, hits the DVR button on our remote and asks, "What the hell is (insert embarrassing show title here)?"  For guys it's something like a cooking show, or one of the many "Real Housewives" (you get extra bonus points in the embarrassing pot if it is the New Jersey or Miami season...although most guys will try and use the excuse of "well Scottie Pippen is on it!)  For girls it can be any number of shows, but I bet the genre that wins out the most would be children's programing...when you don't have a child! (Or is that just me?)  Maybe it's "The League" decidedly a show made for men, but still loved by women.  Maybe it is the new 90210, because let's be honest...nothing will be as good as the original!  Really anything on the WB that anyone over the age of 16 watches!

For me, it is hands down...yes I am going to reveal it regardless of the shame I am about to be slammed with...Wizards of Waverly Place.   I mean it is one thing to catch a really bad show on TV and watch it, if you do this you can always say, "There was nothing else on" when you get caught. But DVRing the show you are ashamed of brings the shame to a whole new level.  You DVR this show, which means you do not catch it by chance, in fact you set your TV to record every episode to ensure that you do not miss a single episode! And, if you are totally in denial about getting caught, you will even extend the end time to make sure you don't miss even one second of this show.  When you watch it, it's a little like "closet eating".  You settle in, so excited, so satisfied, but at the same time with an open ears and your head on a swivel in order to not "get caught"!

Even though we all do it, and even though we are all ashamed of it, it turns out to be either the best 22 or 48 minutes of our lives...every week!  So what is your guilty pleasure show?  Should we even feel guilty about it, or should we let our TV Freak Flags fly?

Cake Balls and Cake Pops Galore!!

The name alone was enough to make me smile...and even laugh out loud a little, but the taste was what really brought a smile to my face.  During jury duty one day we had some down time and since I had recently finished one of my middle school level books I was in need of something to entertain me.  Since I was on jury duty for a month I decided that I would cook and bake a lot more during this time frame.  I started out with a chicken and fish paella.  (I had to omit the shellfish and mussels in order to keep myself alive and replaced those with Atlantic sole...which in case you didn't know, is a really big freaking fish!)  I then moved on to Macadamia Nut Crusted Tilapia with Coconut Rice (Which was great...until I found out Brad hates coconut...I mean, really?  Who hates coconut?)  I made a few other meals and was out of ideas by the time I was half way through my jury duty.  So, during this down time I decided to look up a new cookbook on my Kindle and think of something "amazing" to cook for dinner that night.

I was about at page 9 of cook books when I saw a book called Cake Pops.  There were two things that initially drew me to this book, the adorable picture on the front cover (yes, I am an English teacher that DOES judge a book by its cover) and secondly the price, which I thought was .99 cents.  I was right about one thing.  The contents of this book were so adorable I wanted to run out that night, purchase the book and start baking the next day.  One thing I was wrong about though...the price.  I must have been holding my Blackberry Kindle App too far from my eyes and clearly I wasn't wearing my glasses, because, really...when am I?  The price was $9.99 which, in my opinion, was still a steal for this book, but not what I thought it was.

I opted to by the actual book instead of downloading it.  I have a Kindle which is the world's number 1 rated eReader...but since it is not in color, it really isn't conducive to cookbooks or magazine subscriptions.  Now, contrary to my earlier sentence, which might lead you to believe that I am not a true lover of books (the judging books by the cover comment) I am actually sort of a book freak and I do like to make sure that I still buy as many books as I can.  There is something about the feel of turning crisp new pages of a book, or hearing the crack of the books spine when you open it the first few times that will simply never be replaced by the lightweight, convenient eReader.  (Take that iPad! I still want one though...apparently I want every new electronic)  So I walked over to Borders, which will sadly be closing its doors forever very soon, and bought Cake Pops by Bakerella site author Angie Dudley.  It took me a few days to actually make the cake pops, even though I was chomping at the bit the night I came home with the book.  Finally, I had an occasion to make them...I was determined to make Jen fat!  Just kidding!  I wanted to experiment, and if there is one friend that I know will always eat my new ventures, and be extremely complimentary about them, it was Jen.

I followed Bakerella's instructions, but soon I am thinking of putting my own twist on them.  By no means am I saying that this is something of my own invention, but it is something that made me happy to make and made my friends happy to eat...therefore I am thinking...maybe baking is really where it is at professionally for me...

The best part of bringing my cake balls to my friends, besides them loving them, was when the waitress at dinner asked me where I bought them.  When we told her I had made them she then asked me where my shop was...I had to say, "My apartment", but it got me thinking, I would be the happiest person ever if I had a dessert shop because there is nothing more satisfying than making a sweet and seeing someones face light up before, during and after they eat it!

Here are my finished Red Velvet Cake Balls.  I think next I might try some of my signature cupcake recipes and turn them into cake balls, or cake pops...how does Key Lime Cake Pops sound?  Or Pink Champagne Pops?!  What do you think I should make next?

I had no idea that they paint those huge movie billboards. I have to say, this might be the coolest thing I've ever seen. It was like an oversized massive paint-by-numbers. This might have been the coolest thing I saw today and if Jen hadn't moved I would have never learned this little secret!
